ນິທານທໍາມະບົດ ເລື່ອງ ພິກຂຸອົງໜຶ່ງ. ຄັ້ງໜຶ່ງ ມີພິກຂຸ ໖໐ ອົງ ຫຼັງຈາກໄດ້ຮັບກໍ່າມະຖານຈາກພະພຸດທະເຈົ້າແລ້ວ ໄດ້ພາກັນທີ່ບ້ານມາຕິກະທີ່ເຊີງເຂົາແຫ່ງໜຶ່ງ. ໃນບ້ານນັ້ນ ມີນາງມາຕິກະມາຕາ ມານດາຂອງນາຍບ້ານ ໄດ້ຖວາຍອາຫານແລະສ້າງວິຫານໃຫ້ແກ່ພິກຂຸເຫຼົ່ານັ້ນ. ພວກພິກຂຸທັງຫຼາຍໄດ້ສອນໃຫ້ນາງພິຈາລະນາອາການ ໓໒ ຂອງຮ່າງກາຍຊຶ່ງນໍາໄປສູ່ຄວາມເສື່ອມແລະຄວາມສິ້ນໄປຂອງຮ່າງກາຍ ນາງໄດ້ປະຕິບັດກໍ່າມະຖານນັ້ນດ້ວຍຄວາມຂະຫຍັນໝັ່ນພຽນຈົນໄດ້ບັນລຸພະອໍຣະຫັນພ້ອມດ້ວຍປະຕິສໍາພິທາຍານ. ຕໍ່ມາ ນາງກໍ່ໄດ້ແນະນໍາວິທີປະຕິບັດໃຫ້ແກ່ພະພິກຂຸທັງ ໖໐ ອົງໄດ້ບັນລຸເປັນພະອໍຣະຫັນ. ຕໍ່ມາ ມີພິກຂຸອົງໜຶ່ງກໍ່ໄດ້ໄປຫານາງ ເພື່ອຢາກບັນລຸພະອໍຣະຫັນຄືກັນ. ເມື່ອໄປຢູ່ທີ່ນັ້ນແລ້ວ ທຸກຄັ້ງທີ່ພິກຂຸນັ້ນນຶກຢາກພົບນາງ ນາງກໍ່ຈະມາຫາ ພິກຂຸຈຶ່ງຄິດວ່າ “ຖ້າເຮົາຍັງເປັນປຸຖຸຊົນຢູ່ ຄິດໃນສິ່ງທີ່ບໍ່ດີ ນາງກໍ່ຕ້ອງລ່ວງຮູ້ແນ່ນອນ” ຈຶ່ງມີຄວາມຢ້ານກົວແລະໄດ້ໄປໄຫວ້ພະພຸດທະເຈົ້າທີ່ວັດເຊຕະວັນ. ພະພຸດທະອົງຈຶ່ງຕັດບອກໃຫ້ພິກຂຸນັ້ນກັບໄປໝູ່ບ້ານນັ້ນອີກ ແລ້ວບໍ່ຕ້ອງນຶກເຖິງສິ່ງອື່ນໃດ ໃຫ້ນຶກເຖິງສະເພາະເລື່ອງຂອງກໍ່າມະຖານເທົ່ານັ້ນ ເມື່ອພິກຂຸນັ້ນກັບໄປໄປທີ່ໝູ່ບ້ານ ແລະໄດ້ປະຕິບັດກໍ່າມະຖານບໍ່ນານກໍ່ໄດ້ບັນລຸພະອໍຣະຫັນ. ຄໍາລົງທ້າຍ: ລານທີ່ ໒໖ ໜ້າ ໑: ສັງກາດ ໑໖໘ (ກົງກັບ ຈສ. ໑໑໖໘) ປີຮວາຍຍີ່ ເດືອນ ໔ ອອກໃໝ່ ໒ ຄໍ່າ ວັນ ໓ ຣິດຈະນາແລ້ວຍາມແຖໃກ້ຄໍ່າ ພະຣາຊະສັດທາຫຼວງ ມີໃຈໃສສັດທາສ້າງ ລໍາທໍາມະບົດ ໄວ້ກັບສາສະໜາພະເຈົ້າຕາບຕໍ່ເທົ້າ ໕ ພັນວັດສາ. ນິບພານະ ປັດຈະໂຍ ໂຫຕຸ.
The Dhammapada story of a certain bhikkhu. On one occasion, sixty bhikkhus, after obtaining a subject of meditation from the Buddha, went to Matika village, at the foot of a mountain. There, Matikamata, mother of the village headman, offered them alms-food; she also built a monastery for them. They taught her how to meditate on the thirty-two constituents of the body leading to the awareness of the decay and dissolution of the body. Matikamata practised with diligence and attained enlightenment together with Analytical Insight. Later, she adviced the sixty bhikkhus on how to practice and they all attained arahatship. A certain bhikkhu went to the village in order to have attained enlightenment. There, whenever he wished her to come she personally came to see him. Then, the bhikkhu thought, "Should I, like an ordinary worldling, entertain any impure thought, she is sure to find out." He therefore got scared and decided to see the Buddha. The Buddha told the bhikkhu to return to Matika village, and not to think of anything else, but the object of his meditation only. The bhikkhu went back to Matika village. Within a short time, he attained arahatship. Colophon: Folio 26 on the recto side: Sangkat 168 (corresponding with CS 1168), a hwai nyi year, on the second day of the waxing moon of the fourth lunar month, the third day of the week (Tuesday). The writing of this manuscript was accomplished in late afternoon (between 15.00–16.30 o’clock). The royal king had the religious faith to sponsor the making of this manuscript entitled Preaching Dhammapada to support the Teachings of the Buddha to last until the end of 5000 years. May this be a condition to reach Nibbāna.
