The manuscripts are mostly palm leaves written in Tham Lao, Lao, Lanna scripts, in Lao, Lanna and Pali languages contain various kinds of texts including Law, Monolingual Pali, Jataka, Buddhist chronicle, Secular chronicle, Medical treatise, White magic, General Buddhism, Folktale, Prayer, Ritual, Sutta, Vinaya, Abhidhamma, Literature, Anisong (Award), Philology, Astrology, Didactics. These manuscripts were sponsored the making and donated to Vat Mai by Supreme Patriarches, great monks, members of the royal family, high ranking officials and devout Buddhist. They have been preserved by former abbots and monks amd novices of Vat Mai Suvannaphumaram monastery as heritage until to our present days.
Custodial history: The manuscripts in the collection of Vat Mai Suvannaphumaram were being made from late 17th century to late 20th century, were donated to the monastery by their sponsors who were Supreme Patriarch, senior monks, members of the royal family, high-ranking officials, noble men and prominent lived around the monastery and in Luang Prabang town. Later in 1999, the manuscripts were organised and arranged by the project Preservation of Lao Manuscript Programme in collaboration between the Sangha of Luang Prabang and National Library of Laos.
Arrangement: The manuscripts were/are kept in the monastic library of Vat Mai Suvannaphumaram called "Ho Tai Thammayananusone" which was built in 1975 by Supreme Patriarch Somdet Phra Sanghalat Thammayana Maha Thela (1891-1984). This library is regarded as the Manuscripts Preservation Centre of northen provinces since 2002. The manuscripts are tied together in white cotton bags and kept in woodden boxes and cabinets.
