The Jataka on King Candapajjota. When King Candapajjota who ruled over the kingdom of Ujjheni knew that Udena of Kosambhi had a special knowledge called hassadikan. While Udena was reciting the magic mantra and playing a harp of Hassadikan he can let the elephant escape or catch it. King Candapajjota wanted to learn the mantra. So, he catched Udena and had thrown him in prison, telling him he would be freed if he taught Candapajjota a magic mantra he was reputed to know. Udena refused at first. Giving in, he made a deal with the king to teach the magic mantra to a hunchback in return for his freedom. Candapajjota agreed, dressing his daughter Vasuladatta as a hunchback because he didn’t trust anyonelse to tell him the mantra once it was learned. The king told Vasuladatta that she was going to learn a magic mantra from a leper. So she needed to be careful not to touch him. Then he put the two in a room with a curtain between them. Finally, when the two saw each other, they fell in love and escaped together to Udena’s kingdom. After marriage, Vasuladatta became the queen to King Undena.
