Paraphava sut or Parābhava Sutta, the causes of downfall. The text is for preaching. In the Buddha's time, once the Buddha was dwelling at Anathapindika’s monastery, in the Jeta Grove near Savatthi. When the night was far spent a certain deity whose surpassing spendour illuminated the entire Jeta Grove, came to the presence of the Buddha, and drawing near, respectfully saluted the Buddha and stood to one side. Standing thus, he addressed the Buddha in verses. Then the Buddha answered him and described the twelve causes of downfall.
