Óbitos, 1871-1887

The volume records burials of children born to enslaved women after the passage of Lei 2.040/1871 (the "Free Womb" Law) registered in the Church of Nossa Senhora da Assunção de Cabo Frio, in Cabo Frio, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. A transcription of Lei 2.040, which declared the children of enslaved women free, appears on the first page of the volume. The opening and closing charters were signed by Antonio André Lins (of the secretary of the Provincial Government) and dated 01 May 1872. Entries date from 31 Oct 1871 to 27 Dec 1887. José Francisco Marques signed the entries. Slaves belonging to the Baron of Capanema (Barão de Capanema) and burials in the region of Sacra Familia appear. Physical characteristics: The volume is well conserved and consists of 171 numbered folios and a cover; folios 41v through 171 are blank. Dimensions: 33 cm x 23.5 cm.
