Óbitos, 1872-1887

The volume contains burial records of children born to enslaved mothers after the passage of the Free Womb Law (Lei do Ventre Livre) and free individuals registered in the Church of Nossa Senhora da Conceição de Jurujuba, Niterói, Rio de Janeiro. Entries date from 11 Mar 1872 through 08 Sep 1887. The opening and closing charters were signed by the Secretary of the Government of the Province of Rio de Janeiro, Joaquim Mattoso Duque Estrada Camara, on 01 May 1872. Priest Venancio Lins Telles Barreto signed the entries. In some instances, the cause of death is recorded. At the end of the volume, the Golden Law ending slavery in Brazil is reproduced and signed by Cônego João Aureliano Correia dos Santos in 1890. After folio 13, the remaining folios are blank. Physical characteristics: The volume consists of 197 numbered folios and a cover. Folios are well-preserved. Folios 13f through 197f are blank and were thus not photographed. Dimensions: 33cm X 22cm.
