On one occasion, while residing at the Jetavana monastery, the Buddha spoke to monks about the Brahmin Aggidata, the court advisor of King Maha Kosall, father of King Pasenadi Kosala. After the death of King Maha Kosala, Aggidata abandoned all his belongings to become a recluse outside of the Buddha’s Teaching, sasana.ten thousand male followers became his disciples. One day, the Buddha perceived in his mind’s eye the hermit Aggidatta together with all of his disciples. The Buddha also knew then that all of them had accomplished the sufficing conditions for attainment of arahatship. So he gave his instructions to the Venerable Maha Moggallana to go to give them words before. Later then, the Buddha went to the place of the hermit and his disciples and gave them a discourse. At the end of the discourse, the hermit Aggidatta and all his disciples attained arahatship. Colophon: Folio 24 on the recto side: Sangkatrasa (CS) 1219, a moeng sai year, on the twelfth day of the waning moon of the tenth lunar month, a hwai sanga day, the third day of the week (Tuesday), the writing of this manuscript was accomplished at the time of thae kai thiang (between 9.00–10.30 o’clock). Sathu Mòm (Princess), mother of Princess Kham-on had the most ardent religious faith to sponsor the making of this manuscript entitled Thammapattha (Dhammapada) to support the Teachings of the Buddha to last until the end of 5000 years. May my wishes come true. Nibbānaṃ paramaṃ sukhaṃ (Nirvanaa is the greatest bliss).
