ໃນສະໄໝພະທິປັງກອນພຸດທະເຈົ້າ ພະໂພທິສັດໄດ້ເກີດມາໃນຕະກຸນພາມຜູ້ໜຶ່ງມີຊັບສົມບັດ ໘໐ ໂກດ ຢູ່ໃນເມືອງອະມັງຄະຣະນະຄອນ ຊື່ວ່າເຈົ້າສຸເມທະກຸມມານ. ເມື່ອພໍ່ແມ່ຕາຍໄປແລ້ວ ເຈົ້າສຸເມທະກຸມມານກໍ່ໄດ້ນໍາເອົາຊັບສົມບັດທັງຫລາຍໄປແຈກຈ່າຍເປັນທານ ແລ້ວໄປບວດເປັນລືສີດາບົດ ມີຊື່ວ່າ ເຈົ້າສຸເມທະລືສີ. ທ່ານໄດ້ຈໍາເລີນເມດຕາພາວະນາຈົນໄດ້ບັນລຸຊານສະມາບັດ ໘ ປະການ ກັບທັງອະພິນຍາ ໖ ປະການ. ຕໍ່ມາເຈົ້າສຸເມທະລືສີໄດ້ຮັບການພະຍາກອນຈາກ ພະພຸດທະເຈົ້າທິປັງກອນພຸດທະເຈົ້າວ່າ “ໃນອະນາຄົດຄັ້ງໜ້າ ທ່ານຈະໄດ້ເກີດມາເປັນພະພຸດທະເຈົ້າພະນາມວ່າ ໂຄຕະມະ”.
In the time of Dipankara Buddha, the Bodhisatta was born in the family of a Brahmin with the property of eighty koti lived in Amangala city, named Sumedha Kumara. After the death of his parent, Sumedha brought all his treasures to distribute as alms. Then he went to become a hermit named Hermit. He practiced seriously until he attained eightfold attainment and sixfold superknowlege. Later, Hermit was prophesied by the Dipankara Buddha that "in the future, you will become a Buddha named Gotama".
