This manuscript contains two stories including sòng phutthahup and sòng phòk phachao. Sòng phutthahup means the merit gained by making Buddha images with different material. Such as making the Buddha image of tin will be born as a deva; making of silver will become an great king; making of the stone or flowers will be born as Indra; making of sandalwood will become the king of the kings; painting the image on the cloth or sheet metal will be a great brahma; making of natural gold if wish to the position of a Buddha, or a private Buddha and or a disciple, the wish will be fullfilled. Sòng phòk phachao means the merit gained by gilding the Buddha image. On one occasion, the Buddha was dwelling in the Jetavana monastery of Savatthi, the Buddha preached a sermon about the merit gained by gilding the Buddha image to King Pasenadi and his followers who went to pay homage to the Buddha and asked him about this. Colophons: (1) Folio 8 on the verso side: Sangkat (BE) 2514, a huang khai year, the fifteenth day of the waning moon of the sixth lunar month, the second day of the week (Monday), the writing was accomplished. Thit (ex-monk) Nya from Ban Chan Tai village had the ardent religious faith to sponsor the making of this manuscript [entitled] Sòng phuttahup, to support the Teachings of the Buddha to last until the end of 5000 year. May my wishes come true. May I be a Buddha in the future. May this be a condition to reach Nibbāna in the future. (2) Folio 16 on the verso side: The scribe of this manuscript is Sathu Phò (Monk) Man from Vat Siphutthabat. (3) Folio 17 on the recto side: In Buddhist Era (BE) 2506, a hwai si year, the nineth day of the sixth lunar month, Monday, the writing was accomplished at the time of the kòng ngai (between 7.30-9.00 o'clock). His Holiness Somdet Pha Sangkharat (Supreme Patriarch) Thammanyano is the sponsor, and Pha (Monk) Man Manivangso is the scribe [of the making of this manuscript entitled] Sòng Phòk Phuttahup, to support the Teachings of the Buddha to last until the end of 5000 years. May this be a condtion to reach Nibbāna.
