Dhammapada on the story of jealousy. A man had two wives. The first wife was barren. The second one was fertile. Due to jealousy, the first wife put a drug in the second wife’s food and caused two successive abortions. On the third occasion the potion caused the death of both mother and child. The dying woman vowed to take revenge, and fulfilled her resolve. The other too did likewise. Thus both women avenged themselves in the course of two successive births. In their third birth they met the Buddha, who pacified them by advising them not to retaliate. Therefore, their avenging came to an end. Hatred never ceases through hatred in this world. Colophon: Folio 25 on the recto side: Sangkat 167 (corresponding with CS 1167), a hap pao year, the fourteenth day of the waxing moon of the second lunar month, a ka khai day, the sixth day of the week (Friday). The writing of this manuscript was accomplished at the time of the kòng ngai (between 7.30–9.00 o’clock). A younger brother of the king of the front palace had the religious faith to sponsor the making of this manuscript entitled Thammapattha (Dhammapada) to support the Teachings of the Buddha to last until the end of 5000 years. May this be a condition to reach Nibbāna in the future certainly. Thammapattha, fascicle 6.
