Malai Saen refers to the time when Venerable Malaya went to worship the stupa of Ketkaeo chulamani in Tāvatiṃsa heaven, he found one hundred thousand devas there. Venerable Malaya is a powerful monk who could soar by supernatural power. Once, the Venerable went to the heaven to worship the stupa, he met a deva who had one hundred thousand followers and also met Ariya Metteyya Bodhisatta. In their conversation, the Bodhisatta asked the Venerable that, “in the human world what kinds of the merit are the people doing?” The Venerable then told about various human behaviors to the Bodhisatta. There are many people performing the merit with giving alms, observing the precepts and practicing meditation. They wish to see the face and be born in the time of Ariya Metteyya when he becomes the Buddha in the human world. Colophon: Folio 22 on the recto side: Sangkat (CS) 1257, a hap mot year, on the tenth day of the waning moon of the twelfth lunar month, the third day of the week (Tuesday), the writing of this manuscript was accomplished at the time of thae kai thiang van (between 9.00–10.30 o’clock). Saen Kunlavong and his wife together with all their children, grandchildren and relatives had the ardent religious faith to sponsor the making of this manuscript [entitled] Malai saen to prolong the Teachings of Gotama Buddha to last until 5000 years. Sudinnaṃ vatta me dānaṃ nibbānaṃ paranaṃ sukhaṃ niccaṃ dhuvaṃ (May the alms that I have already given be a condition to reach Nibbāna which is the greatest bliss constantly and certainly).
