This volume contains letters written by the Governor of Sierra Leone between 20 February 1853 and 22 July 1854. The first page includes an index listing the schedules transmitted to the Secretary of State for War and the Colonies, providing their page number, subject, and date. Each despatch includes the date and the place it was written, the number of the despatch, and the signature of the sender. Some pages consist of a schedule of despatches sent on a specific date. The volume of is bound in red cloth boards. There is damage from iron gall, as well as some traces of water damage. The paper in the volume is brittle.
