Police Magistrate Records 23 Jul 1866-25 Feb 1867

The volume contains cases brought before the Police Magistrate at the Police Office at Freetown between 23 July 1866 and 25 February 1867. It contains an index that lists cases alphabetically by name of the defendant, and gives the page number in the volume. The volume includes the date, the name of the Police Magistrate who heard the case, the name of the person charged, the offence, and whether the case was dismissed, or the sentence. Reference is sometimes made to whether the defendant pleaded guilty. Records of cases include the accounts of the plaintiff and defendant, the Police Constable and of some witnesses. The last pages contain a list of the prisoners committed for trial since 15 May 1866. The volume is bound in blue cloth boards. There are traces of water damage and damage from iron gall.
