The volume contains cases brought before the Police Magistrate at the Police Court at Freetown between 20 January and 14 July 1897. It includes an index that lists the cases by name of the defendant, and gives the offence, the sentence and the page number in the volume. For each case, the volume includes the name of the Police Magistrate, the plaintiff and the defendant. Information is also provided about the nature and date of the offence, and sometimes includes statements by the plaintiff and defendant, as well as some witnesses. Information is provided on whether the defendant pleaded guilty, the sentence given and whether the fines have been paid. The spine and the cover are damaged. The paper is brittle, and the edges are breaking away.
