The volume contains cases brought before the Acting Police Magistrate at the Police Court at Freetown between 15 July 1897 and 28 January 1898. It includes an index that lists the cases by name of the defendant, and gives the offence, the sentence and the page number in the volume. For each case, the document includes the name of the Police Magistrate, the plaintiff and the defendant. Information is also provided about the nature and date of the offence, and sometimes includes the plaintiff and defendant’s statements, as well as some witness statements. Information is also provided on whether the defendant pleaded guilty, the sentence given and whether the fines have been paid. There is extensive water damage, and some damage from iron gall. The binding is loose, and there are some traces of mould.
