Police Court Records 1851-1852

The volume contains information about cases brought before the Police Magistrate at the Police Court at Freetown between 4 February and 31 December 1851. The reports of cases include the date, the names of the plaintiff and of the defendant, and a short title relating to the case. Cases relate to offences ranging from petty theft to assault. The document contains the accounts of the plaintiff, and sometimes of a constable or of witnesses. Reference is made to whether the case was dismissed or committed for trial, and information is provided on sentencing. The volume does not have a cover. The binding is loose, and there is extensive damage from iron gall.
