Police Court Records 2 Nov 1861-9 May 1862

This volume contains information about cases heard before the Administrative Police Magistrate in the Police Court at Freetown between 2 November 1861 and 9 May 1862. These cases relate to a wide range of offences from petty theft to kidnapping. For each case, the volume provides information about date and location, the name of the constable, the name of the plaintiff and the names of defendants. The report on cases includes a short title describing what the case relates to, the constable or plaintiff’s oaths, and sometimes the statements of witnesses and defendants. The volume records whether the defendants were convicted, and nature of their sentences. The material contains one volume of cases, without an index, bound in blue cloth boards. There is evidence of extensive water damage, and some parts of pages are missing. There is some mould on the last pages.
