The chronicle of the Phra That Phanom at Vat Phra That Phanom monastery in Nakhon Phanom province, Thailand. In the Buddha’s time, the Buddha accompanied with his attendant Ananda Thera to the region of Marukkhanakhon city. One day after meal, the Buddha spoke to Ananda about his prediction. Eight years and eight months after his passing away, one of his disciples named Maha Kassapa Thera would bring 24 pieces of his chest relics to install at Kampha Mountain in order to be a place of worship and respect for human beings and deities and to establish the teachings of the Buddha at the region as well. Colophons: (1) Folio 8 on the verso side: I am Thit Phui, former head of the sub-district is the scribe. May I rejoice with the sponsors, Thit Chan and Sao Lek fron Xiang Maen village. (2) Folio 9 on the recto side: Buddhist Era (BE) 2485, a huang sai year, on the ninth day of the waning moon of the fourth lunar month, the third day of the week (Tuesday), the writing was accomplished at the time of kòng vat (between 15.00–16.30 o’clock). The initiator, Sao Thongsi from Xiang Maen village together with all her siblings and children had the ardent religious faith to sponsor the making of this manuscript entitled Tamnan That Phanom (Legend of Phanom stupa) to support the Teachings of Gotama Buddha to last until the end 5000 years. May the results of this merit support me until entering into Nirvana and cut the five obstructions off and reach Nirvana as my wishes. Arahanto homi anāgate kāle ariya metteyyo santike pabbajjaṃ mama pāpunāti nibbānaṃ paramaṃ sukhaṃ niccaṃ dhuvaṃ. Thit Phui, head of the sub-district is the scribe, may I rejoice with the sponsors.
