The text tells about the running of the first Buddhist Council. Upali Thera was invited by the Sangha to recite the Vinaya. The questioner monk asked Upali Thera about the places where the Buddha prescribed the Parajika (a grave offence involving expulsion from monkhood; defeat), and Upali Thera explained in details to the Sangha. Colophon: Folio 32 on the recto side: Chunlasangkat (CS) 1288, a hwai nyi year, on the eleventh day of the waxing moon of the eighth lunar month, the first day of the week (Sunday), the writing was accomplished at the time of kòng ngai (between 7.30–9.00 o’clock). Chao Mòm (Princess) Pheng, mother of Prince Rasasamphan (Sisaloemsak) from Xiang Thong village together with her children and grandchildren had the most ardent religious faith to sponsor the making of this manuscript entitled Sangkhayana (Buddhist Council), to support the Teaching of the Buddha to last until the end of 5000 years. May all our wishes come true that is Nirvana as the ultimate goal. On the other hand, I may share the results of this merit with father, mother, relatives and all creatures that already died. May they all receive this merit and be born a good place and reach happiness.
