Kan Swai means “invitation” that is to invite all sacred things in the universal to come and join as witness in the auspicious ceremony. The kan swai mentions Indra, brahmas, hades, mekkhala deity, mother earth, devas from all heavens, garudas, nagas, gandhavas, Vishnu, phaphoeng (fire), phaphai (wind), the sun, the moon, the four heavenly kings, and 15 families of naga kings who are protecting the Luang Prabang city. The text is written in Tham-Lao. This kan swai is popularly used in the auspicious ceremonies in Luang Prabang from the past until the present. Colophon: Folio 12 on the recto side: Sangkat (CS) 1217, a hap mao year, on the sixth day of the waning moon of the third lunar month, the fourth day of the week (Wednesday), the writing was accomplished at the time of thiang van (between 10.30–12.00 o’clock). Hua Khu Kao (Abbot Kaeo) of Chum Khong temple sponsord the making of this manuscript entitled Kan Swai Luang (Great Invitation to Devas) for the world and to support the offerings of the people.
