Dhammapada on the story of Tissa Thera who was a son of the Buddha’s uncle. He was ordained as a monk at his old age. He was a conceited and obstinate monk. He did not pay due respect to the senior monks. When they admonished him, he threatened them, and complained to the Buddha. The Buddha advised him to apologize the senior monks, but the Venerable Tissa was obstinate. The Buddha related a story to show that Tissa had been just as obstinate in a previous life, when he was born as a hermit named Hermit Deva did not apologize to Hermit Narada who had forgave him. Later, the Venerable Tissa was compelled to seek pardon from the senior monks. Colophon: Folio 25 on the recto side: Chunlasangkat one hundred and 92 (corresponding with CS 1192), a kot nyi year, on the fifth day of the waxing moon of the eighth lunar month, the sixth day of the week (Friday), a tao set day, [the writing of the manuscript was accomplished] at the time of kòng ngai (between 7.30 –9.00 o’clock). The initiator, Achan Suvannaphannya had the religious faith to sponsor the making of this manuscript entitled Thammapattha (Dhammapada). Nibbāna paccayo hotu (May this be a condition to reach Nirvanaa).
