Dhammapala on the evil action of Monk Cakkhupala. The monks asked the Buddha about the cause of Monk Cakkhupala’s blindness. The Buddha related how, in a previous life as a doctor, he had treated a poor woman’s eyes. She promised to become his servant if her eyesight was restored. The treatment worked, but the woman pretended that her eyesight was getting worse. The doctor retaliated by giving her another medicine, which blinded her. Due to the evil action Cakkhupala became blind in this life. Colophon: Folio 25 on the recto side: Chunlasangkat one hundred and 92 (corresponding with CS 1192), a kot nyi year, on the fifth day of the waxing moon of the eighth lunar month, the sixth day of the week (Friday), a tao set day, [the writing of the manuscript was accomplished] at the time of kòng ngai (between 7.30 –9.00 o’clock). The initiator, Achan Suvannaphannya had the religious faith to sponsor the making of this manuscript entitled Thammapattha (Dhammapada). Nibbāna paccayo hotu (May this be a condition to reach Nirvanaa).
