Somphamit Jataka. On one occasion, the Buddha was dwelling at the Jetavana monastery in Savatthi giving a sermon about the story of Devadatta Thera. Once upon a time, a king named Somphamit ruled a great city called Champa. He had his queen named Kaeoketsani Sivorakanna Devi and two sons named Sayasena and Sayadatta. The king also had a younger brother, Asomphamit. One day, Asomphamit planned to assassinate King Somphamit for the royal throne. Fortunately, one loyal pasha informed the king. Then the king along with his queen and two sons escaped from his kingdom. They traveled into a forest where they were in danger and getting suffering. Colophon: Folio 29 on the recto side: Buddhist Era (BE) 2505, a kap nyi year, the twelfth day of the waxing moon of the tenth lunar month, the sixth day of the week (Friday), the writing was accomplished at the time of kòng ngai (between 7.30–9.00 o’clock). Xiang (ex-monk) Phan and his wife, Sao Thongkham from the village of Ma had the ardent religious faith to sponsor the making of this manuscript entitled Ninyai Somphamit (Tale of Somphamit) to support the Teachings of the Buddha. May two of us, a couple reach the three states of happiness with Nibbāna as the ultimate goal. May our wishes and desires not be ignored. May this be for us to reach Nibbāna.
