Suruci Kumara was the son of the king of Mithila. When he was 16 years old, he went to Taxila for study. When he arrived at Taxila, he firstly stopped at a pavilion near the city gate. There, he met Brahmadata Kumara who was the son of the king of Pharanasi and went there for the same purpose. After meeting, they both were familiar with each other. They both studied with the same teacher. When they finished their studies, they said good-bye to their teacher for returning their cities. Before separating, in order to keep their friendship for long, they made a promise that if one has son and another one has a daughter they would organize a wedding ceremony for their children. When they both were succeeded to the thrones, King Suruci had a son named Suruci Kumara, and King Brahmadata had a daughter named Sumedha Kumari. They made a wedding ceremony for Suruci and Sumedha as their promise.
