The queen of Champa Nakhon ordered her trustworthy servant to ask the goldsmith about the earring. The goldsmith said to the servant: “I have finished the earing’s setting, but I need some time to put the gems into the setting. I will bring them to her as soon as I complete it.” The queen felt her heart burn even hotter when her servant relayed the message. Her thoughts drifted: “What will happen if the king finds out that I have lost an earring and learns the cause of that loss? He will probably whip me, exile me, or have me executed.” Colophon: Folio 26 on the recto side: Sangkat (CS) 1222, a kot san year, the seventh day of the waxing moon of the tenth lunar month, the third day of the week (Tuesday), a poek set day, [the writing was accomplished] at the time of kòng ngai year (between 7.30–9.00 o’clock). The younger brother of the king, who lived in the back golden palace had the religious faith to sponsor the making of this manuscript [entitled] Lam siao savat khatthanam, to support the Teachings of the Buddha. May this be a condition for us to reach Nibbāna.
