The text tells about Milinda panha, (Pali: “Questions of Milinda) the lively dialogues on the Buddhist doctrine with questions and dilemmas posed by King Milinder or Menander, Greek ruler of a large Indo-Greek empire in the late 2nd century BCE and answered by Venerable Nagasena, a senior monk. Colophon: Folio 25 on the recto side: Sangkatrasa one thousand and one hundred and 96 (corresponding with CS 1196), a kot sanga year, on the sixth day of the waxing moon of the third lunar month, the third day of the week (Tuesday), a hwai nyi day, the writing was accomplished at the time of kòng ngai (between 7.30–9.00 o’clock). Chaofa Müang Valin and his wife together with all their children, grandchildren and relatives jointly sponsored the making of this manuscript [entitled] Vohan Milintha panha to support the Teachings of the Buddha to last until the end of 5000 years. Nibbāna paccayo hontu dhuvaṃ dhuvaṃ (May this be a condition to reach Nibbāna, certainly and certainly).
