This volume contains burial records of freed (forro) and free indivduals registered in the Church of Nossa Senhora da Conceição de Porto das Caixas, Itaboraí-RJ.The entries date from 31 Jan 1860 through 26 Jan 1880. Of the opening and closing charters, only the opening charter has urvived and was signed by Vicar Joaquim Freire de Azevedo Coutinho on 17 Jan 1892 in Porto das Caixas. Vicar Manoel Florentino Cassiano de Campos and Vicar Joaquim Freire de Azevedo Coutinho signed the burial records. The entries include the burials of children (inocentes); abandoned children (expostos); children born to enslaved mothers after the passage of the "Free Womb Law" (Lei do Ventre Livre"-- Lei 2040 of 28 Sept 1871); as well as of Portuguese, French, Spanish, and Swiss individuals. African "nations"/ethnonyms mentioned: Angola, Mina, and Moçambique (Mozambique). In some instances, the cause of death was recorded.
