Óbitos de Forros e Livres, 1885-1889

The volume contains burial records of freed (forro) and free individuals registered in the Church of São João Batista (Baptista) de Icaraí (Carahy, Carii, Carahi) between 12 Aug 1885 and 09 Jan 1889. Vicar General Luis Brito signed the opening charter in Rio de Janeiro on 07 Jul 1884, while Canon Vicar João Aureliano Correia dos Santos signed the closing charter and initialed the folios in Niterói on 15 Dec 1884. Canon Vicar João Aureliano Correia dos Santos also signed each entry. Among others, the volume documents the burials of Portuguese individuals; children (inocentes), some of whose parents remained enslaved; and prominent local citizens, including Counselor Manoel José de Freitas Travassos; Doctor Celestino Gomes de Oliveira; Doctor Antonio Martins Torres; Major Jeronymo Pinto Netto dos Reis; Doctor José de Sá Carvalho; Counselor Affonso Arthur de Almeida e Albuquerque; Doctor Antonio Francisco Villaça; and Doctor Augusto Manoel Pralon. Each entry includes information about the cause of death (when known) and place of burial.
