Registros Eclesiásticos da Catedral de São João Batista

This collection contains Portuguese manuscript documents from the Cathedral of São João Batista in Niterói, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The volumes were produced during the Colonial, Imperial, and Republican periods and include registers of baptism (1660-1889), marriages (1734-1892), and burials (1727-1889) of free, freed (liberto), and enslaved individuals. Custodial history: The volumes were produced by the church of São João Batista, originally located in Icaraí (Carahy, Carii, Carahi) and moved to the center of Niterói in June of 1854. In accordance with local custom and Canonical Law, all documentation of a permanent nature produced by the Parish is transferred to the Archive of the Archdiocese of Niterói after 70 years.
