Batismos de Escravos F, 1828-1855

This volume contains baptismal records of enslaved individuals registered in the Church of São João Batista (Baptista) de Villa Real da Praia Grande (the former name of the city of Niterói) and covers the period between 06 January 1828 and 25 February 1855. The opening charter is dated 06 October 1826 and was signed by José Caetano Perr.a (Pereira) de Aguiar; on the following folio there is a vow in the name of Father Joaquim de Santa Anna Lamego. The closing charter is dated 23 October 1826 and was signed by Father Francisco Manoel Almeida Guimarães. The volume consists of 296 numbered folios. The entries were signed by the aforementioned Father Lamego and by the following priests: Thomas de Aquino (after 14 November 1829) and Coadjutor Francisco Manoel D'Almeida Guimarães (after 01 November 1851). The following African ethnonyms and "nations" appear: Minna (Mina), Cabinda, Angolla (Angola), Congo, Moçambique (Mozambique), Monjolo, and Benguela.
