On one occasion, the Buddha was present at the Veluvana monastery. The Buddha spoke to Ananda about Venerable Devadatta assassinated the Buddha. The 1st time, Venerable Devadatta ordered 4 men to assassinate the Buddha with bows, but when the time came to kill the Buddha, those men did not dare. The 2nd time, Venerable Devadatta rolled a stone down from Gijjhakuta hill while the Buddha was practicing a walking meditation, but he did not hit the Buddha. But the stone did not hit the Buddha. He only had a stone splinter hit his foot causing his blood to bleed. The Buddha said to Devadatta that, a void man, you are accumulating sins because you have a mind thinking of harming the Buddha, causing his blood to bleed. And the 3rd time, Devadatta released the elephant Nalagiri to attack the Buddha, so the Buddha spread his loving-kindness to the elephant until it calmed down and dropped its tusks and stood to paying respects in front of the Buddha. Colophon: Folio 27 on the recto side: Sisumangkhala Sangkatrasa (CS) 1299, a poek nyi year, on the fifteenth day of the waxing moon of the second lunar month, the fourth day of the week (Wednesday), the writing was accomplished at the time of kòng ngai (between 7.30–9.00 o’clock). The initiator, Rattanapannya sponsored the making of this manuscript entitled Nalakhilisut (Nālāgiri Sutta) to to support the Teachings of the Buddha to last until the end of 5000 years. May the results of this merit be a condition for Nirvana and cut the five obstructions off and reach Nirvana as my wishes. Arahantī homi nibbāna paccayo honto no niccaṃ dhuvaṃ (May I obtain Arahantship. May this be a condition for us to reach Nirvana, constantly and certainly, the greatest bliss). Xiang Tan 3 Shops sponsored the palm leaves. May he be recovered from the illness definitely.
