The Dhammapada story of a man and King Pasenadi. At the time, King Pasenadi fell in love with a beautiful woman who was a young man’s wife. The king wanted to have her as his wife. One night, while the king obsessed with sexual desire, could not sleep, and kept thinking out how he would get rid of the husband and take his wife. At about midnight, he heard some eerie sounds saying du, sa, na, so. Hearing those weird voices, the king was terrified. On the coming day, the king went to the Buddha. When the Buddha was told about the voices, he explained to the king that those were the voices of four petas who suffering in Lohakumbhi Niraya. In the past, they had committed sexual misconduct with other people's wives. Then, the king came to realize the depravity of the deed and the severity of the punishment. So, he decided then and there that he would no longer covet another man's wife. Colophon: Folio 38 on the recto side: Sangkat 173 (corresponding with CS 1173), a huang mot year, on the eighth day of the waxing moon of the eleventh lunar month. His majesty the king of Sisattanakharahutta Nusuvannaphumintha kingdom had the religious faith to sponsor the making of this manuscript entitled Thambot (Dhammapada). May this be a condition for us to reach Nibbāna.
