The volume contains information on cases brought before the Police Magistrate in the Police Court at Freetown between 10 July and 17 October 1889. It includes an index that lists the cases by name of defendant and gives the offence, the sentence and the page number in the volume. For each case, the document includes the name of the Police Magistrate, the plaintiff and the defendant. Information is also provided on the offence, the date of the offence, and sometimes includes the plaintiff and defendant’s statements, as well as some witnesses. It also states whether the defendant pleaded guilty, and provides information on the sentence given. The cover and the spine are damaged. There is extensive damage from iron gall.
