The volume contains cases brought before the Police Magistrate at the Police Court at Freetown between 18 April and 18 July 1889. It includes an index that lists the cases by name of defendant and gives the offence, the sentence and the page number in the volume. For each case, the document includes the name of the Police Magistrate, the plaintiff and the defendant. Information is also included about the offence, the date of the offence. The report of a case sometimes includes the plaintiff and defendant’s statements, as well as some witness statements. Information is also provided on whether the defendant pleaded guilty and the sentence given. The volume is bound in blue cloth boards. The cover and the spine are damaged. There is damage from iron gall, and there are some traces of mould at the beginning and at the end of the volume.
