Police Records 22 Aug 1837-8 May 1838

The volume contains cases brought to the Police Office at Freetown between 22 August 1837 and 8 May 1838. The information provided includes the date, and whether the case was heard by the Mayor or the Police Magistrate. The name of the person charged is provided, as well as information about who brought the charges and for what reasons. Cases relate to offences ranging from robberies to assault. Several cases also concern apprentices who refused to return to their masters. The document contains the account of the plaintiff, and sometimes of a constable or of witnesses as well as whether the defence admitted or denied the charges. The volume is bound in brown cloth boards. The binding is loose, and there is extensive water damage.
