The sluice, called Periyamadai, lies on the eastern part of the tank. This tank belongs to Iḍaiyāttūr village of Ollaiyūr-kūṟṟam. The inscription refers to the establishment of this sluice by Kāḍañcāttaṉ and Kāḍaṉ Kaṇḍaṉ, two sons of Paḍārakaṉ alias Karumāṇikka-ceṭṭi. The title Kōvirājakēsari suggests that it might have been established during the Chōḻa king Parāntaka-I. On palaeographical ground, it could be dated to 9th century CE.
