Sòng Maha Vessantara means the merit gained from worshiping and listening to the preaching of Vessantara Jataka. The Buddha preached a sermon about the merit of the Vessantara Jataka to his disciples and Sakya princes. The Buddha said that those who wish to meet Ariya Metteyya Buddha are advised to listen to the preaching of Vessantara Jataka and to accomplish the listening within one day. Their wish will come true. Due to the results of the listening to the preaching of Vessantara Jataka, after death, they will be reborn in heavens, not going to hells, reborn in the period of the coming Buddha, Ariya Mettaya, and attain enlightenment and enter Nirvana. Colophon: Fascicle 12 on the verso side: Sisumangkhala Sangkatrasa (CS) 1292, a kot sanga year, on the third day of the waxing moon of the third lunar month, the fourth day of the week (Wednesday), the writing was accomplished at the time of kong ngai (between 7.30–9.00 o’clock). Chan On and his wife Sao Thi sponsored the palm leaves. Rattanapannya is the scribe. They jointly sponsored the making of this manuscript entitled Song Maha Sat (Rewards derived from listening to the Vessantara Jataka) to support the Teachings of the Buddha to last until the end of 5000 years. May the results of this merit be a condition for Nirvana and to cut the five obstacles off, and to reach Nirvana as our wishes. May I obtain Arahantship. May this be a condition for us to reach Nirvana, constantly and certainly.
