Jataka tale of a tortoise jumping from a cliff. The Buddha preached a sermon on his previous life to his disciples at the Jetavana monastery in Savatthi. In the past, the Bodhisatta was born as a tortoise named Suvannakassapo who had beautiful skin like gold living in a foot hill near the ocean. At the time, there were 500 junk traders when their junk broke down in the middle of the ocean, they cried out for help. When the golden turtle heard, he hurried to the rescue, having the traders ride on his back. When they were on the shore, the turtle saw the traders tired and hungry, he told them to kill him for food, but the traders refused to kill him. The golden turtle climbed the mountain and set up his mind to pray for a future Buddhaship and to break his body so that the traders could eat him for life. when he finished praying, he jumped down from the mountain until he died and was reborn as a deva named Suvannakassapa Devaputta in the heaven.
