Dānakhanda the third episode of the Vessantara Jataka with the whole text written in Pali. Before Vessantara left Sivi kingdom, he donated “sattasadaka mahadāna” (donation of 7 things, 700 each). Then, he left the kingdom with Queen Maddi, son, Jali and daughter Kanha directing to the Himavan forest. Along the way, a group of paupers came and asked for the royal carriage and horse. He gave them. Finally both of them carried their son and daughter and continued their way by foo to the Himavan forest. Colophon: Folio 21 on the recto side: Mahasangkat 1002 hundred 3 (corresponding with CS 1203), a salu year (the year of the Ox), the thirteenth day of the waning moon of the fifth lunar month, the second day of the week (Monday), a ka mot day. Phanya Müang Saen and his wife, along with their children, relatives, males and females slaves jointly had the most ardent religious faith to sponsor the making of this manuscript [entitled] Pali thānakhan (Dānaka), to support the Teachings of the Buddha to last until the end of 5000 years. May our wishes come true. Nibbāna is the greatest bliss.
