Vinaya text on the Pavarana (giving occasion to speak). In the Buddha’s time, there were three monks who lived in a monastery for the Buddhist Lent. When it was near the pavarana day, they talked with each other that the Buddha allowed only for a number of four monks to perform the pavarana ceremony as an act. Now we are only three. How do we perform the ceremony? Then they went to ask the Buddha. Thus, the Buddha allowed for three or two monks could perform the pavarana as Gana Pavarana. Later, a monk was ill and could not participate in the ceremony, the Buddha allowed him to leave his pavarana with other monk to perform for him. Colophon:Folio 026 on the recto side: Chunlasangkat 57 (corresponding with CS 1057), a hap khai year. Maha Somdet Sangkharasa Phutthavongsa had the religious faith to sponsor the making of this manuscript entitled Sap Mahāvak, to support the Teachings of the Buddha to last until the end of 5000 years. May this be a condition to reach Nibbāna.
