Thammabot or Dhammapada with the whole text written in Pali means a word of the doctrine is the name of a scripture of Suttanta Pitaka Khuddaka Nikaya. The Dhammapadas are the Buddhist proverbs that the Buddha said to different people, different deeds, different agendas, and different places. They are short words of the doctrine in the form of verses composed as poems. Each of the Dhammapadas is the truth and is the immortal speech of the Buddha. There are 423 verses in the Dhammapada; if counted as the stories that the Buddha talked about, there are 302 stories. Every verse in the Dhammapada is important. It is used as a guideline for doing good deeds, it will benefit as desired. Colophons: (1) Folio 51 on the recto side: Sangkat (CS) 1215, a ka pao year, the fourth day of the waning moon of the eleventh lunar month, the sixth day of the week (Friday), a huang hao day, the writing was accomplished in the afternoon […] had the most ardent religious faith to sponsor the making of this manuscript [entitled] Khatha thammabot, to support the Teachings of the Buddha to last until the end of 5000 years. May wishes and desires come true. May this be a condition for us to reach Nibbāna. (2) Folio 52 on the recto side: Chunlasangkatrasa (CS) 1222, a kot san year, the thirteenth day of the waxing moon of the tenth lunar month, the third day of the week (Tuesday), a kap si day, the writing was accomplished at the time of kòng ngai (between 7.30–9.00 o’clock). A younger brother of the king of the golden palace in back side, had the religious faith to sponsor the making of this manuscript [entitled] Supunnanak, 2 fascicles, to support the Teachings of the Buddha to last until the end of 5000 years. May this be a condition for us to reach Nibbāna certainly.
