This manuscript contains two stories including Sòng Upmung and Sòng Kamphi. Sòng Upmung means the merit gained by building a shelter for the Buddha images. The content tells King Asoka of Pataliputta converted him into Buddhism after listening to the teaching of Novice Nigrodha. The king supported Buddhism and the Sangha by giving alms to sixty thousand monks regularly. The king distributed the relics of the Buddha to other cities. The king also built the monastery named Asokaram and other abodes of 84,000 and donated them to the Sangha. Sòng Kamphi means the merit gained by making the wrapping cloth for the manuscripts. The Buddha preached a sermon about the merit of the wrapping cloth for the manuscripts to King Pasenadi who came to the presence of the Buddha and asked him about this at the Jetavana monastery of Savatthi. Colophon: Folio 27 on the recto side: Sangkat (CS) 1198, a hwai san year, the sixth day of the waxing moon of the seventh lunar month, the seventh day of the week (Saturday). Phò Khamtan and his wife, together with their children had the most ardent religious faith to sponsor the making of this manuscript [entitled] Sappha sòng, to support the Teachings of the Buddha to last until the end of 5000 years. May our wishes come true. May this be a condition to reach Nibbāna.
