Sòng thammat means the rewards derived from making a preaching chair and offer it to a monastery. On one occasion while residing at the Jetavana monastery in Savatthi, the Buddha spoke to his disciples about a man and then gave this sermon. In the time of Vipassi Buddha, there was man lived in Baddiyanakhon. The man had the ardent religious faith and spent his money to make a preaching chair with a staircase of five gold goats for steping on up and down. When finished, he offered the chair to Vipassi Buddha. After death, he was reborn as a devaputta in Tavatimsa heaven with a gold castle decorated with seven kinds of crystal, 50 yot hight and 20 yot width. The devaputta had one thousand angels as his fellows. After the heaven, he was reborn as Mendakasetthi in Benares. Colophon: Folio 14 on the recto side: Auspecious time, auspicious blessing, Maha Cunlasakkat (CS) 1282, a kot san year, the fifth day of the waxing moon of the twelfth lunar month, the first day of the week (Sunday), a poek san day. The writing was accomplished at the time of the kòng ngai (between 7.30-9.00 o'clock). Chao (Princess) Khamkham from the royal palace had the ardent religious faith in the Teachings of the Buddha along with her relatives to sponsor the making of this manuscript [entitled] Sòng pha namfon, in order to dedicate this merit to my late husband who already died to the other world. May the results of this merit support and move him to a happiness place, may this merit be a golden and magical castle for him immediately. Amen, amen! I rejoice.
