Songkhò mueang means the exorcise ceremony for the city. The ceremony is held when the unauspicious events occurred in order to resolve the problems from misfortune to become fortune. The village or city will be in peace. The exorcise ceremony includes a kathong (vessel made of the banana bark) containing ground rice, flowers, incense, candles, betel nuts, sugar cane and raw bananas. Then monks are invited to chant the protective chants and the important suttas of Xai Nòi (Culla Jaya) and Xai Luang (Great Jaya).The villagers then take the kathong to float away in the river. This is believed to remove bad things from the family and the village, and to ward off evils.
