Monainya or Moneyya patipada means the practice of the sage, the Buddha taught this practice to Venerable Nalaka, the text exists in Atthakatha Nalaka Sutta. Moneyya patipada is the practice of moral perfection. Moneyya practice is the austere practice of traveling from forest to forest, from tree to tree, from village to village without stopping for more than one day & never spending two days in one forest / hill, village, etc. The monk who practises Moneyya in severe manner can live only for seven months while the monk who practises in mild manner can live for seven years. The ones who fulfills in lenient manner will have a life span of sixteen years. Venerable Nalaka learnt about this austere practise from the Buddha and started to practise in severe manner.
