Casamentos de Forros e Livres, 1883-1890

The volume records marriages of freed (forro) and free people registered in the Church of Nossa Senhora da Conceição de Rio Bonito between 24 Nov 1883 and 24 Oct 1890. Municipal Judge Domingos Lopes Estrela signed the opening and closing charters on 10 Jan 1883 and initialed each folio in the volume. The volume records marriages of free individuals with enslaved parents; emancipated Africans (africanos livres); marriages for which enslaved people served as witnesses; ex-slaves freed by the Golden Law (Lei Áurea) that ended Brazilian slavery (Imperial Law no. 3.353). General Vicar Monsenhor Brito appears numerous times throughout the volume. The volume also records a pastoral visit by Francisco, Bishop of Petropolis, on 05 June 1898 and one by D. Carlos Alberto Navarro, Archbishop of Niterói, on 02 Jul 1997. Father Edson Assunção also signed this record. Vicar Virtulino Bezerra Cavalcanti signed all entries.
