Arabic Poetry

Transliterated title: Araabukaŋ Suukuwo.

The manuscript is a recent copy of an Arabic text. It has extensive glosses in Mandinka Ajami to help local readers understand the content. The document deals with the story of a young man from the Banī Isrā'īl whose parents were debating whether their son should become a shepherd, as his father wished, or learn the Quran. The debate between the two parents was brought to the attention of Prophet Muḥammad who recommended the boy to learn the Quran for one day and to work as a shepherd for two days.
