Knowledge over Material Wealth

Transliterated title: Jajaay Ndiŋo.

The manuscript is a bilingual Arabic-Mandinka Ajami text that the ower calls Jajaay Ndiŋo. It is an Arabic poem copied from the original written by Ibn Abī Zayd al-Qayrawānī. It has extensive glosses in Mandinka Ajami to help local readers understand the content in their own language. It deals with the importance of knowledge.

Custodial history: The owner served as a Quranic teacher. He copied the manuscript and added the glosses in Mandinka Ajami in order to help his students and local readers understand the content of the Arabic poem.

Extent and format of original material: 10 pages.

Physical characteristics: Unbound manuscript. Due to the poor conservation condition and ink stains, some words in the oldest pages may be hard to read. The last page was recently added and is written with a blue pen.
