Narajīva Jataka, the story of Narajiva who looked after his parent. Once upon a time, the Bodhisatta was born in a family of miserably poor people in Varanasi, named Narajīva. When he grew up, he raised his father and mother. Later, the father died, Narajīva, so he raised only the mother. One day, his mother was bitten by a snake and died. When he found the snake, he thought of killing it, but if I killed it, I would break my precepts. He thus let the snake go and cried over his mother's body, and begged devas to come and help. Indra changed his form as a Brahmin and approached Narajīva and pretended to ask the way to Varanasi. When Narajīva saw the Indra Brahmin, he asked for medicine for his mother. Indra Brahmin replied that if he had a human heart to make medicine, it would help. Narajīva then gave his heart to the Brahmin and set his wish to become a Buddha in the future. When the Brahmin put the heart in the mother's mouth, she recovered, but Narajīva died. When the mother saw her dead son, she felt pitty for him. So she set her wish for begging her son's life. As soon as the prayer was finished, Narajīva revived as if he had fallen asleep.
