On one occasion, while the Buddha was residing at the Jetavana monastery spoke to his disciples about the five men. Once, there were five men made flag each to worship the Triple Gem. The first man made an iron flag, the second made a golden flag, the third made a silver flag, the fourth made a gold flag and the fifth made a glass flag. When each man had finished his own flag, he claimed that his flag will gain more rewards than others, so there was a dispute. Thereafter, they went together to the presence of the Buddha and asked him about which flag would gain more rewards than others. The Buddha said the rewards of the making of the flags much and cannot be counted. You each made a different flag but the results of the merit are the same. After the death, they all were born in Tāvatiṃsa heaven possess the divine treasures and surrounding with many angels. Colophon: Folio 5 on the recto side: Chunlasangkat (CS) 1272, a kot san year, on the thirteenth day of the waning moon of the tenth lunar month, the seventh day of the week (Saturday), the writing was accomplished at the time of thae khai kham (between 15.00–16.30 o’clock). I (Ms) Phiokhao had the ardent religious faith to sponsor the making of this manuscript entitled Sòng Thung Lek (Rewards derived from making iron flags) to dedicate to phò kam mae ven (deceased persons or spirits whom would come to harm us any times), may I be free from all worries and dangers.
